Protein from Plants?

The Plantrician project is working to spread the word about a plant-based diet. One of the most frequent questions I get when I start talking about switching to a "flexigan" diet is; How am I going to get enough protein? I usually start with the fact that Americans get way too much protein in their diet and that all of that excess protein gets broken down into amino acids and converted to carbs and eventually stored as fat. Most of us only need about 0.25-0.35 grams of protein per kilogram of lean body weight for women and 0.35-0.5 grams of protein per kilogram of lean body weight for men.

All of the amino acids and proteins in our diet come from plants. Try telling a wild horse or a bull that they need to eat chicken for protein! Herbivores that we eat just concentrate that protein for us, but those proteins that we get from animals are inflammation-causing rather than inflammation-suppressing.

Here is a video from the Plantrician Project on youtube that is easy to follow and gives some great information. Please contact me if you have any questions!
